How It Works

Each child who attends (age 7 to 18, both male and female) must be sponsored and accompanied by an adult. That means parents, friends, grandparents, etc., may sponsor and attend our campfire weekend. Each adult may sponsor two children, or three, if one of the children is his or her own. (And we do have a tag-along program for children under age 7.)

The NYBOJC Campfire is set up in a 7-year program structure. The first year your child attends, he or she will be taught the basics like, introduction to fly tying, knots, and a history of our organization. The second year gives you a more progressive set of classes, all the way up through the seventh year, where you go one on one with an expert and take part in our Fishing with the Master’s program.

Depending on age and experience, each youth is able to participate in a dynamic, fun, and safe learning environment over the three exciting days of our annual Campfire. Here’s what a typical daily education program looks like:

 
  • Tag a long - Casting a Spin Fishing Rod

    Red 1st - Beginning Knot Tying/ & Identifying Fish

    Orange 2nd - 2nd year Fly Casting

    Yellow 3rd - Fly Tying Streamers

    Green 4th - Anatomy of a Trout Stream & Knot Tying

    White 5th - Fly Tying Dry Flies

    Blue 6th - Salt Water Fly Tying

  • Tag a long - Intro to Fly Casting

    Red 1st - Intro to Fly Tying Instruction

    Orange 2nd - Way of the Trout/Knot Tying/Terminal Tackle

    Yellow 3rd - Intro to Fly Fishing

    Green 4th - Advanced Casting and Line Control

    White 5th - Stream Side Instruction (Lunch at stream)

    Blue 6th - Preparation for Fishing (Lunch at stream)

    Masters - Fishing with the Masters

  • Tag a long - Fly Casting Fun

    Red 1st - Intro to Fly Casting

    Orange 2nd - 2nd year Fly Tying Nymphs

    Yellow 3rd - Advanced Entomology & Wading Safety

    Green 4th - Advanced casting & casting over moving water

    White 5th - Stream side instruction - on the river

    Blue 6th - Preparation for fishing with Masters

    Masters - Fishing with the Masters

Rates Include: 

  • 3 days of accommodations at the highly-rated

The NYBOJC hosts its Annual Campfire event at Camp Timberlake West, located just outside of Roscoe New York (aka Trout Town USA). This is a first-class camp venue, located in New York’s beautiful Catskill Mountains, Timber Lake West includes 400 secluded acres and is only 2.5 hours North of New York City and 3.5 hours from Philadelphia.
